Home English tuition in your teacher’s home

Intensive one-to-one English tuition in your teacher’s home. Live with your English teacher, learn at your pace, and use real-life English every day.

We organise homestays and English lessons across the UK for students aged 16 and above, selecting only hosts tutors with enhanced safeguarding and DBS checks.

Ask us a question

What is Home English tuition?

Home English tuition combines homestay accommodation with one-to-one English lessons in the teacher’s home. You live with your teacher (and their family, if applicable) and have private lessons each week, usually in the living room, dining room or a quiet study.

This is not a language school course and there are no group classes. Instead, you work one-to-one with your teacher on the areas that matter most to you, at a pace that suits you.

Is this programme right for me?

  • Best for: motivated students who want intensive, individual attention; exam or interview preparation; students who prefer a quieter environment.
  • Not ideal if: you want lots of classmates, campus facilities, or a busy social programme organised for you.

How it works

1

Tell us about your plans

We ask about your goals, level, preferred dates, hours per week, dietary needs, and any access or medical requirements.

2

We match you with a suitable teacher

We look for a tutor whose teaching background and home environment match your request. For under-18s we require appropriate checks and references.

3

We confirm your programme

You receive a written summary of lessons, homestay details, board type (meals), and our terms. You can ask questions and request reasonable adjustments before confirming.

4

You travel and begin your stay

You travel to the UK, move into your teacher's home, and start your lessons. We stay available in case you or your teacher need support during the stay.

Board options (meals)

You choose a board option when you book. All options include a furnished bedroom, Wi-Fi, bed linen, laundry access, and reasonable use of shared areas.

Self-catering

You buy and prepare your own food. You'll have reasonable access to the kitchen at agreed times. Your host will explain where you can store your food and any house rules about cooking (for example preferred times, cleaning and recycling).

Bed & Breakfast

Breakfast is provided every day (times agreed with your host). You buy and prepare your own lunch and dinner, using the kitchen at agreed times.

Half Board

Breakfast and dinner are included every day. You buy and prepare your own lunch, unless you arrange a packed lunch directly with your host for an extra cost.

Full Board

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every day. Lunch may be a light meal or packed lunch depending on your timetable and your host's schedule.

Food allergies & dietary needs

Please tell us about any dietary needs or allergies when you enquire. We will only offer you a home where the host confirms they can safely accommodate your needs. This may limit the number of options available.

Homes are not commercial kitchens and hosts may also have their own dietary preferences, family routines and working hours. We will explain what is realistic before you confirm. If you have a severe allergy (for example to nuts or pet hair), we may recommend a different option such as a residence plus school-based tuition.

Personalised to your goals

Your lessons are tailored to your priorities. Typical focuses include:

  • General English (speaking, listening, reading, writing).
  • Exam preparation (IELTS, Cambridge, school or university exams).
  • Professional English (meetings, presentations, interviews, email writing).

Your teacher will prepare a simple plan for the week based on your level and aims. You can bring materials from your school, university or workplace if you wish.

Example week (20 hours)

Mon–Fri

  • 09:30–12:00 – One-to-one lessons (2.5 hours)
  • Afternoons – Self-study, exploring the local area, optional activities arranged by you
  • Evenings – Dinner and informal conversation with your host

This is just an example. We can adjust lesson times, number of hours and focus depending on your needs and your teacher’s availability.

Availability & location

Home tuition is available throughout the UK, subject to matching and season. We receive most requests for London and the South East, but we can also consider other cities and regions where we have suitable teachers.

If you ask for a very central London location, please keep in mind:

  • Average prices are higher in central zones.
  • Journey times from some areas can be 30–60 minutes each way.
  • A slightly wider search area often gives better matches.

Practical information

  • Minimum age is usually 16. Students under 18 are placed with appropriately checked hosts.
  • Lesson hours are agreed in advance and confirmed in writing.
  • Bed linen and laundry access are included; towels are usually provided but can be confirmed.
  • Wi-Fi is included, but speeds and coverage vary between homes.
  • Airport transfers and travel cards are not included in the basic price but can be arranged separately.
  • We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for medical, cancellations and belongings.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a language school course?

No. Home tuition is one-to-one private tuition in a teacher’s home. There is no campus and no group classes. If you would prefer a school-based course with classmates, we can recommend accredited language schools instead.

Can I choose a very central London location?

You can request central zones, but this may reduce the number of suitable options and increase the price. In many cases, an area 20–40 minutes from central London offers a better balance of quality, price and travel time.

How many lesson hours can I have per week?

Most students choose between 10 and 25 hours of lessons per week. Higher numbers are possible but can be very intensive. We will discuss a realistic number of hours based on your goals, level and the length of your stay.

Can I prepare for an exam such as IELTS?

Yes. Many of our teachers have experience preparing students for IELTS, Cambridge or school/university exams. Please tell us which exam you are preparing for and your target score or grade.

Do I have full access to the kitchen?

If you choose a self-catering option, you will have reasonable access to the kitchen at agreed times. Your host will explain house rules about cooking, cleaning, noise and storing food. For catered options, kitchen use is more limited.

Not sure if home tuition is right for you?

If you are not sure whether living and studying with a teacher is the best option, we can talk through alternatives such as:

  • Accredited language schools with homestay or residence accommodation.
  • Homestay only with a nearby language school.
  • Shorter or longer stays with different lesson intensities.

Please feel free to contact us and we will advise honestly based on your goals and budget.

Ready to plan your Home English tuition?

Please tell us a little about yourself, your level of English and what you would like to achieve. We normally reply within two working days with options or follow-up questions.

What to include:

  • Your name, age and nationality.
  • Current level of English and any exam targets.
  • Preferred arrival date, length of stay and hours of lessons per week.
  • Your preferred board option (meals) and any dietary needs or allergies.
  • Any access needs or medical information it would be helpful for us and your host to know.
